BREAKDOWN:
MOM (ANN)
30s. Warm, nurturing, and endlessly giving, Ann is the heart of her family. She has a natural ability to make everyone around her feel safe, loved, and cared for, even when life gets hectic. The holidays are her favorite time of year because she lives for creating meaningful moments and making the people she loves feel special. Beneath her gentle warmth is a woman with tremendous emotional strength and a joyful spirit. Warm, expressive voice with a powerful, soaring belt.
DAD
30s. Lovable, easygoing, and genuinely funny, Dad is the kind of father who can lighten a room with a well-timed joke while still being the steady presence his family can count on. His humor and playful personality are balanced by a sincere, tender heart. He is approachable, affectionate, and unmistakably the family’s fun-loving dad. Bari-tenor with warmth, character, and a strong sense of comedic timing.
GRANDMA ANN
40s+. Warm, spirited, and wonderfully nostalgic, Grandma Ann carries a lifetime of holiday memories with her. Though she has grown older, her youthful spark is very much alive—she is playful, witty, and quick to find the humor in life. Her storytelling should feel intimate and engaging, drawing the audience into her memories while keeping them smiling and laughing along with her. Beneath the humor is a deep tenderness and genuine love for her family and the traditions that connect generations. Light, expressive soprano with a charming, storytelling quality.
SON
20s (but plays younger). Energetic, exuberant, and naturally outgoing, the Son is the kind of person who brings an infectious excitement wherever he goes. He still carries that youthful enthusiasm and love of the holidays, even as adulthood has begun to pull him in different directions.
As he gets older, he has grown somewhat distant from his family, creating a quiet emotional space between who he was and who he is becoming. Beneath his playful exterior is a young man who is still figuring out where he belongs—and who understands that, no matter how much life changes, home will always mean something to him. Tenor with youthful energy, warmth, and an expressive, heartfelt quality.
NOTE: Performers can be Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian/Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern/North African/South Asian, and/or White as well as inclusive of all gender identities.
